We’ve been totally inspired by Caroline Roberts’ fab new novel, THE COSY TEASHOP IN THE CASTLE. Heritage English castles? Afternoon tea? Mary Berry style mastery with a piping bag?! There’s so much to love, and more specifically, we’ve been inspired by Nanna Beryl’s drool-worthy ‘Choffee Cake’!
Ellie, the heroine of the novel, realizes her life-long dream of running her very own teashop, concocting cake after glorious cake. But she has a special place in her heart for a very special recipe, the famous Choffee Cake, which is a delicious and heart-warming nod to her late Nanna’s baking legacy. It’s a coffee-chocolate laden thing of dreams, and we just couldn’t resist having a go ourselves: cue THE COSY TEASHOP IN THE OFFICE!
Caroline’s editor, Charlotte, whipped up the Choffee over the weekend using the recipe that’s handily in the back of the book. She’s not convinced it’s as good as master baker Ellie’s, but if the near-empty plate is anything to go by – only a couple of hours in – then it’s fair to say it was pretty tasty!
We hope Caroline, and Nanna, have inspired you too. There’s nothing quite like a spot of afternoon tea, so have a go at the Choffee – or anything, we’re not fussy! – and we’d love to see any photos of your attempts. Tweet them to the @HarperImpulse and @W6BookCafe accounts, and we’ll be in sweet, sweet heaven!
